Birch.The word comes from the Latin words, "cor" and "ago," meaning, the heart, and to put in motion. They are such as put all their trust and confidence in Christ. "All ye that hope in the Lord." Not the sinless, the perfect, but, etc. But in our own strength no one is sufficient for these things but the grace of God will help us. The longer it is left the greater will be the difficulty. If sin has gained power over you, at once - delay not a day - in seeking to subdue it. Cut down the tree, but not this only, pull up the roots.Ħ. In mortifying sin be careful to leave no part remaining. This must by no means be neglected, the more we pray the stronger we are.Ĥ. Watchfulness is another help taking care to keep away from the occasions and inducements to sin: occupation in what is good and right, storing the mind with God's truth.ģ. "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lusts of the flesh."Ģ. Faith is one grand means of victory over sin. But you ask, "How am I to attain this strength? Must I always go on sinning?" No, for -ġ. These are continually occurring, and we know not how to overcome them. Often they are very trying but this promise is for us. THE PROMISE - "He shall strengthen your heart." We have duties, many, varied, arduous. But be our circumstances what they may, here is an antidote to them all. A.Many are almost despairing because of their trials and their temptations. From him must be derived the power for every duty and every difficulty. 24.) He strengthens us by his Spirit to hope and trust in him. With what courage we should hope in God! (Ver. 23.) He preserveth the faithful, and rewardeth the proud. What love and reverence we owe to God because of his retributive work! (Ver. LESSONS ADDRESSED TO THE CHURCH, DRAWN FROM HIS OWN EXPERIENCE. God's great goodness was shows to him openly and secretly. God was to the psalmist what a strong city is to those who seek safety. God hides and protects those who trust in him - as in a royal pavilion (ver. Compare with the parable of "the treasure."Ģ. 4 1 Corinthians 2:9.) Same thought in substance in all these passages. God's goodness is a treasure laid up for future as well as present use and blessing. THE PSALMIST OBTAINS FROM GOD THE HEARTFELT ASSURANCE OF HELP, AND PRAISES GOD FOR IT.ġ. 18 he describes at length his trouble, and brings it to God. 8 the Lord may, must, and will help him in his trouble, because he is his God.
